We have all heard how Medusa,
the Greek goddess, trapped men with her hair. We can, hence, understand
what attraction our hairs present to the others. We can make the
best use of this attraction by learning to manage what we have been
endowed with. Your wedding day presents a special opportunity to
use your skills and imagination to show-off your hair in the best
of styles.
Wash your hair the day before as it is easier to manage and control
it then. Before deciding on the style, you must consider the weather,
your dressing style, your face cut and your hair type and their
length. Mostly people prefer to put up their hair in bouffant
or make a simple plait. But, with the wedding dress becoming trendier,
the hairstyles have also taken a twist and compete with the dress
and jewelry, in terms of cut, style and imagination.
But whatever style you choose, remember not to make your hairstyle
so eye-catching that it takes away all the attention from your
face and leaves you looking like a mannequin for hairstyles in
those fashionable salons. The focus should always be on the face,
and nothing should detract from it the glow that you have achieved
with so much labor.
Mostly, one prefers to have a the hair twisted into
a knot, as this helps to keep the "ghungat" in place
and accentuates the forehead decorated with bindis, and designs
drawn around them. The "Maangtika" is also fixed easily
and looks more attractive. But, you have to avoid drawing the
hair away from your face, if your face is very small or longish.
Tying your hair in a loose knot at the nape, or in a loose plait,
will soften your face if you have high cheekbones or a sharply
angled face. High foreheads need to be concealed by draping fringes
over them or by sweeping the hair sideways. Small and round faces
can be made to appear longer by back sweeping the hair and a topknot.
You can then decide to decorate your hair with flowers, "parandas"
and jewelry. Once again, remember not to overdo the decoration
and if you still want to have an elaborate hairstyle, make sure
to pare down your clothes and jewelry to avoid a jaded look.
